Weekly Watchlist 118 - An Island Unto Itself

What's the story, evangelists of embellishing eradicating?!

I continue my journey in the rings of Japan this week with, what might possibly be, the strangest match I've ever reviewed on the Wrestling Vault. I say this, knowing full well I've reviewed a match on a Bullet Train as well as a handfull of CHIKARA matches in my day too.

Despite all that, I think this one has to take the cake.

Why is that, dear reader? Well, read on and find out!

Weekly Watchlist 117 - Hansen Clashes With The Giant

What's the story, watchers of whitewashing wrecking?!

I continue through the rings of Japan with another Stan Hansen encounter this week! What can I say, when I'm in a good grove, I like to stay there! This match blew every expectation I had away and thoroughly entertained me.

Let's read some more about it, shall we?

Weekly Watchlist 116 - The Acid Black Cherry Goes For the Gold

What's new, junkies of jockular jousting?!

I continue this unintentional streak of covering Japanese wrestling by going back to Sendai Girls to cover one of my favourite wrestlers on the planet.

I think you guys can figure out who I am talking about.

Regardless, read on! It's a brilliant matchup.

Weekly Watchlist 115 - The All Japan Triple Crown is Born

What's the story, champions of counterfeit challenging?!

We're starting to get some motivation back, slowly but surely, as I dig around my media server to find matches to watch this week. I was feeling like watching some Stan Hansen this week and happened to find a rather historically significant match by complete happenstance! What luck!

Let's see how this match shakes out, yeah?

Weekly Watchlist 114 - Can the Headlock Save Wrestling?

What's new, hobbyists of hustling headlocks?!

There's been a lot of talk in the wrestling world this past week about this match, so I decided I'd throw my hat in the ring again. 2 weeks ago I commented on the Tsuji/Yuto match from this year's G1, feeling it didn't quite live up to the mammoth praise that was being heaped onto the match, and now I comment on the finals of this year's G1.

Is it a legitimate match of the year contender? Hell, a "greatest of all time" candidate?

Or, is it just another great match that will get lost in the history books?

Let's dig in and find out!

Weekly Watchlist 113 - The Dangerous Queen Meets a Dangerous Rookie

What's new, maniacs of masquerading mauling?!

This was a difficult week for yours truly. I've said it once, and I'll say it again, but depression is a real bitch. It was a real struggle for me to find anything I wanted to review or even watch the matches I wanted to watch to just keep regular for the week. Up until last night, I had a whole other match pencilled in for this weeks review, but I started to remember how I've pulled myself out of these funks.

In case of emergency, break glass.

What, or who, I should say, exists behind said glass?

Two wrestlers I've relied on when I needed that extra boost, that reminder that the sport of kings is the greatest thing on planet earth.

The first; Kenta Kobashi, arguably the greatest wrestler to ever live. The Iron Man himself.

The second; Akira Hokuto, the Dangerous Queen, close behind Kobashi for one of the greatest to ever live, regardless of gender.

So, at about 11pm on Thursday, I turned to YouTube and searched the most open-ended thing I could think of, "Akira Hokuto vs." that's where all great searches start.

From there, I found this weeks match.

Let's see what I found, shall we?

Weekly Watchlist 112 - Can Tsuji Meet The Challenge of Yuto?

What's the story, enthusiasts of exaggerated enmity?!

This week, I have a rather interesting match on offer for review. One of the more polarizing matches I've watched in some time, the internet can't seen to decide if they think this match is the hottest thing since sliced bread, or the worst thing NJPW has done in years. Honestly, I'm somewhere in the middle, and am going to try and thread the needle a bit here and play to both sides. Maybe by the end of this review I'll have a much better opinion, but I write this intro paragraph a mere hour after watching the match and am still undecided about how I truly feel!

Let's take a walk together, shall we?

Weekly Watchlist 110 - Wrestling Roulette

What's the story, maniacs of misleading mauling?!

Welcome, one and all, to the 11th edition of...

The Weekly Watchlist Wrestling Roulette!

Yes, dear reader, it's back! The once-every-10-weeks tradition continues! We've crossed the milestone of 10 editions of Wrestling Roulette, with the 11th instance proving to be the craziest of them all!

For those unfamiliar with the general concept, once ever 10 weeks, I let a random number generator pick the matches for me. That is normally what I let happen, but this week is somewhat unique, and you'll find out exactly why as you read on.

So what am I keeping you here for? Go ahead! Read on!

Weekly Watchlist 109 - Can Big Hash Survive the Gypsy Queen?

What's the story, worshippers of whitewashing warring?!

We're a week shy of Wrestling Roulette and getting into the lovely summer months. I really wish I could enjoy the weather more this week, but wildfires to the north and west of me has put everything in a gloomy, gross haze. So, I'm stuck inside watching wrestling! Oh no! Whatever will I do!?

I guess I could write about it? That sounds like a fun idea!

Weekly Watchlist 108 - The New World Order

What's the story, addicts of approximating assaults?!

Something of a special post for you guys this week as I celebrate the anniversary of one of the most important matches in the history of wrestling. Now, let's not get confused, there's a big difference between "important" and "good" or even "great" matches. I never said I would always review the best matches!

Let's get right into the action this week, yeah?

Weekly Watchlist 107 - Ace Draws a Bad Hand

What's the story, partisans of pseudo provocation?!

A shorter review this week as I found myself both a bit busy and burnt out, but I have good news! I've been feeling much better! A combination of medication changes and lifestyle changes have been making me feel much better and wanting to do my writing more. I need to get out of the habit of leaving it until the last minute, like I've been guilty of lately, but we'll get there. Baby steps.

Let's get into the review for the week, shall we?

Weekly Watchlist 106 - War of the Chops - 2 Year Special

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages, Cliff Morgan's Wrestling Vault proudly brings to you, fellow groupies of grifting grappling;

Weekly Watchlist 106, the 2 Year Special!

Wow, imagine that! 2 whole years writing about wrestling for this silly lil' blog! Who'd have thought I'd make it this far? Me? I dunno! I was always hopeful I'd stick with it past the first few months, and I'm glad I did! Sure proved all my haters wrong! Ha!

I'll have more to say at the end of this week's post, but for now, I just want to say thank you for checking in again this week. Whether it's your first, fifth, or fiftieth edition of the Watchlist. Thank you.

So, without further ado! Let's get down to the review'in!

Weekly Watchlist 105 - Speedball x Something Implodes

What's the story, maniacs of mimicking mauling?!

What do you get when former tag team champions face off in a one-on-one match! A fun bout! I'll keep things short and sweet today, as todays match and review are rather short, so I don't see a reason to waste any more time.

Onward! To the match!

Weekly Watchlist 104 - The Pink Striker Challenges the Cosmic Killer

What’s the story, boosters of bootlegging bludgeoning?

Gonna keep this weeks intro short and sweet. I decided to buck the trend set last week (can you really call one post a trend?) and move past the Savage/DDP feud, I’ll hopefully come back to it eventually

This week, however, the rings of Pro Wrestling: EVE spoke to me, so I gave them a watch for the Watchlist this week.

Weekly Watchlist 103 - Paige Fights for a Savage Head

What's the story, patrons of parroting pummelling?

A rather difficult week for yours truly, it was a real challenge for me to find something I wanted to review this week. I lucked out after finishing The Lapsed Fan's Starrcade Memorial Tour (for the second time) and deciding that I'd dig around in some WCW classics for a review this week. Match one of a three match series (maybe a 3 week review series?) was my choice for the week, which proved to be pretty fun! Maybe not a bona-fide banger, but fun regardless!

Well, what are you waiting for? Read on and find out more!

Weekly Watchlist 102 - Don Callis Family Civil War

What's new, clientele of cosplaying competition?!

A busy week means we'll be pulling from the modern day for this week's iteration of the Watchlist. I didn't even get a chance to dig around for anything else, as soon as I saw this match, I knew it was going to be discussed as the week's feature. It's just that good.

So, let's not waste any more time, yeah? Read on!

Weekly Watchlist 101 - The Burning Sword Duels With The Awesome Gladiator

What's new, viewers of veiled vanquishing?!

Things have been a bit slow for your favourite wrestling reviewer recently. A combination of burnout and depression hitting me with a lethal one-two combination that has been putting me on the backfoot for a number of days. I'm still putting in the work to keep on top of the blog, at least the weekly posts, but it doesn't come without some difficulties.

Similar to when I was in a rough spot last year, I decided to watch a wrestler that, if he were in my shoes, would surely not give up. Would push on through the pain, and would persevere until the bitter end.

For days like the ones I've been having, sometimes I just need to ask myself;

What would Kenta Kobashi do?

What's new, defenders of delusive disagreements!

Welcome, one and all, to the 10th edition of...

The Weekly Watchlist Wrestling Roulette!

Yes, dear reader, it's back! The once-every-10-weeks tradition continues! We've reached 10 instances of Wrestling Roulette and 100 total Weekly Watchlists! Man, what a milestone. First off, I'd like to thank my mo- oh, it's not one of those occasions? Oh, my bad.

I didn't have anything big planned for this roulette, saving a big post for my upcoming 2 year special, opting instead to let the RNG gods decide my fate once again this week.

So, what did they spin up for me? Read on and find out!

Weekly Watchlist 099 - Eye for a Lariat

What's new, advocates of artificial altercations?!

We've got a pretty infamous bout on offer for you guys this week, less for the in-ring action and more for the injury and story surrounding this match. I don't spend a lot of time focusing in on the injury, for the squeamish in the audience, so feel free to read this without fear of losing your lunch.

Let's not waste any more time in the preamble, let's get into this, yeah?
