Weekly Watchlist 105 - Speedball x Something Implodes

What's the story, maniacs of mimicking mauling?!

What do you get when former tag team champions face off in a one-on-one match! A fun bout! I'll keep things short and sweet today, as todays match and review are rather short, so I don't see a reason to waste any more time.

Onward! To the match!

Mike Bailey vs. Jake Doyle
In Another Universe, These Men Were Brothers
I feel like I'm seeing a ghost. AEW

Bell To Bell

Accompanied to the ring by current TNT Champion and former tag team partner of Mike Bailey, Kevin Knight, Jake Doyle storms to the ring, getting in the face of Bailey before the bell rings. When the match starts, both men lock up in the middle, with Doyle effortlessly shoving Bailey off. Kipping up, Speedball doesn't stay out of the fight for long, but Doyle seizes on him quickly, gripping him by the throat and swinging for a heavy right hand, but Bailey avoids the shot.

Using his Taekwondo background, Bailey lights up Doyle with kicks and chops, taking off for the ropes but gets met with a Vader-sized barge, with Doyle kicking back dirt over the body he just dropped. Going for the killing blow early, he tries to pull Bailey in for a powerbomb, but he slips free, going for a hurricanrana. Catching Bailey like a father catching his child jumping off a jungle gym, Doyle holds Bailey effortlessly, again going for a powerbomb but Bailey slips out of certain disaster.

Whatever advantage he can find. AEW

Backed into the corner, he slows the charging bull with a barefoot to the face, using the middle rope to assist him with a hurricanrana, taking Doyle down! A dropkick sends Doyle to the apron, with a sweeping kick taking Doyle down to the floor. Acting quickly, Bailey uses the corner to land a triangle moonsault to the floor, crushing Doyle upon impact! Lining up Doyle, Bailey lands a running kick, but Doyle eats the shot and stands tall, eating chops and kicks but refusing to drop, even sitting in a chair at ringside to avoid hitting the floor.

With Kevin Knight running distraction, Doyle is able to jump Bailey and tosses him back inside the ring, with bailey acting quickly and darting for the opposite side of the ring. Taking off with a low angle dropkick through the ropes, Someth- I mean, Doyle, catches Bailey and rolls through the momentum on the floor, drilling Bailey on the apron with a disgusting powerbomb!

I think he's dead. AEW

A cut for commercials breaks up my feed, with Bailey now holding Doyle upside-down on his back on the apron, but Doyle breaks free, only to find himself in the perfect position for Bailey's Ultimate Weapon. Flipping back, Bailey lands heavy on the chest of Doyle with both knees, the big man rolling inside the ring with Bailey slow to follow him inside. Moving to pick Doyle up, Bailey instead gets caught with a catchers mitt around the throat, stopping him dead.

Slowly rising, Bailey is able to break Doyle's grip twice, but the third time does nothing, with Doyle's grip tightening like a vice around the throat of Bailey. Trying for a chokeslam, Bailey is able to shift his position in the air and hook Doyle's torso with his legs, pulling him down into a pin, but Doyle escapes. With his foe on the canvas, Bailey lands a kick to the torso and another Ultimate Weapon. Back on his feet again, Doyle is able to move out of the way of a head kick from Bailey, but he eats another pair of kicks, dropping to his knees and taking a second to celebrate his damage. Big mistake. Still vertical, Doyle launches himself at Bailey, catching him in the back of the head with a vicious lariat.

Like a sniper using a sledgehammer. AEW

With both men slow to their feet, they meet in the middle again, with Bailey catching Doyle with a kick to the face, stunning him at centre. Another kick staggers Doyle, but he stays standing. Bailey tries to run for another kick, but Doyle has Bailey caught, one massive boot standing on the right foot of Bailey, not letting him move an inch. Fighting for his life, Bailey laces Doyle with chop after chop, but the monster absorbs every shot, staring a hole through Bailey. Winding back, a Dragonslayer-sized right forearm crushes Bailey completely,

Pulling his foe up for a powerbomb, he overshoots and stumbles backwards, with Bailey able to slip free and land on the apron. He lures Doyle to climb the corner, sniping him with a kick when he rises to the middle rope. With the big man dazed, Bailey slips back in and drills Doyle with a powerbomb of his own, he covers, but Doyle survives! Ascending to the top rope, Bailey flies with a shooting star press and another pin, with Doyle still getting out at two.

Lining him up from across the ring, Bailey spins like a tornado for his corner tornado kick, but Doyle barges out and crushes him with another massive forearm shot. Bellowing to the heavens, he muscles Bailey up from the canvas with, what I can only describe as, a barrel toss. Covering, Bailey manages to get a shoulder up just in time.

Doyle sends Bailey into the corner and attempts a spear, but Bailey avoids and moves to the opposite corner, lining up Doyle and landing his tornado kick in the corner. Ascending to the top, he tries for Ultimate Weapon, but Doyle avoids, snatching Bailey and drilling him heavy with a powerbomb. Covering, he pins Bailey for three. Doyle conquers.

The Berserk Bomb, perhaps? AEW

Match Time: 10:08

This match was a whole lot of fun! It did what it set out to do, but Doyle up as a monster, in short effort and made sure that both men looked better as a result. Sure, bailey got beaten, but he's in a position right now that a loss or two won't kill him. Maybe it's just because I have a bias for Somethi- I mean Doyle, but I want this dude to win everything. I mean, I already have him winning everything in my save of Fire Pro Wrestling World. Dude is like a quadruple champ. But enough about video game fantasy booking, this match was a load of fun. Great stuff.
