Matches of the Month - September 2026

What's the word, friends?

A new edition of Matches of the Month is here to celebrate the beginning of the autumn season! Yes, that means the leaves are turning and the temperatures are dropping as old man winter starts to tighten his grasp on us here in the great white north.

But fear not, friends! I will push on! I will power through! I will continue to find the very best wrestling the world has to offer!

But before we get too ahead of ourselves, let's take a look at September, yeah?

September was a bit of a harder month for yours truly, and a lot of people in the wider wrestling world as well. Losing both Andy "The Butcher" Williams as well as Ben Satterly, "PAC," within the span of 2 weeks, along with the heart-wrenching AEW special tribute episode for "Rebel" Tanea Brooks. For myself, I found it hard to get motivated this month, going through some personal struggles in the background that really hampered my enjoyment of anything and everything. Depression sucks, friends. But, I managed to push through and still found some exciting matches from the month that was!

Darby Allin vs. Mark Davis - AEW Dynamite - 09/02/2026

On the singles run of his career, Davis trounces Darby Allin in this match from pillar to post. To the surprise of none, Darby gets his ass absolutely handed to him here, but he's able to endure Davis and come back for the win in typical Darby fashion. Sure, it was another crash test extravaganza for Darby, with Davis more than equal to the task of giving him a convincing beatdown, but the action was fun and the match was great. Hard for these two guys to have a bad match.

Amazing Red vs. Kyle Fletcher - HOG Fall Out 2026 - 09/04/2026

Making a rare indie appearance, Fletcher takes on someone that has been revolutionizing wrestling for 20 years in Amazing Red. In the main event match for his own promotion, Red looked great here against Fletcher, the years of punishment from wrestling not slowing him down to a considerable degree. Maybe not able to keep up with Fletcher quite the same, he still wrestles in a more than convincing manner and is able to push the Protostar time and again. The end result almost seemed like a given, but there were enough believable nearfalls here that still made the buildup to the finish exciting.

Jamie Hayter vs. Lena Kross - AEW Dynamite - 09/16/2026

A rare singles outing for both of these women, Lena Kross got to prove what many fans knew about her already; that she is a fantastic singles wrestler when given the chance to shine. Jamie Hayter, to her credit, is a fantastic dance partner to have, being a former AEW Women's World Champion, but Kross did not feel out of place putting the boots to Hayter for most of this match. Far better and more compelling than most would have assumed this match to be going into it, this was far and away the best match on this episode of Dynamite, standing head and shoulders above the rest of the card. My hope is that Kross continues to get some time in the singles division to really shine and show the wrestling world just how good she is.

Soberano Jr. vs. Bandido - CMLL 93. Aniversario - 09/18/2023

It's almost become a cliche at this point, but, yet again, Bandido had one of the best matches on the card. Not to discredit him or say this in a negative way, Bandido is one of the best wrestlers in the world, but I feel like I'm saying this almost every other week at this point. Soberano Jr; to his credit, is one of my favourite names in CMLL, working as a fantastic Rudo with an exceptional look and style that has caught my attention right from the very start, this match was bound to be good from the moment pen was put to paper. A fantastic piece of business from both men, this match managed to feel like a real blend of both American "TV" wrestling (like 'Dido is used to being with AEW) and Mexican lucha libre. 'Dido's mask becomes a major target for Soberano Jr. who is just effortless in the ring, it's really great stuff from both men.

Kazuchika Okada vs. Tommaso Ciampa - AEW All Out 2026 - 09/26/2026

Featured in Weekly Watchlist 120 - A Tribute to PAC

Swerve Strickland & The New Level vs. Adam Page & Brodido - AEW All Out 2026 - 09/26/2026

AEW Dynamite - A Tribute to PAC - 09/30/2026

Normally, I don't give entire shows the nod in a "Matches of the Month" post, as that's kinda counter intuitive to the whole point of this, but when you have a show as beautiful as this one, with matches so good that they all deserve some sort of spotlight, I feel like now is the time to break the mould. Go out of your way to hunt down this episode of AEW Dynamite. Not only will you not be disappointed by one match on the card, the entire show itself is simply beautiful. The tributes to PAC are spilling out through the seams of this episode of Dynamite and it makes for one of the most beautiful pieces of television I've seen in some time.

Until next month. Be well, stay safe, and love one another.
