Whats the story friends?
It's time for another round of the Matches of the Year tournament! This post will be covering the first half of the D block, July. It's a strong month of high quality matches in this bracket, even if July's matches of the month doesn't tell the same story.
But enough preamble, read on to find out what made it through to the next round!
The Pre-Quarterfinalists
The D Block Pre Quarter-Finals for July |
July was a lighter month for matches worth talking about. I was really hoping that All In Texas would have some excellent matches worth talking about, and I was not let down. Two of the three matches in this bracket came from that show! Let's give them a quick rundown, shall we?
Kenny Omega vs. Kazuchika Okada - 07/12/2025
Revisiting their legendary feud, Okada and Omega set out to add another chapter to their story and wow an American crowd for the first time in their history. The brief involvement of Don Callis did little to bring down the quality of this match or distract from the in ring work, as Okada and Omega are able to work through just about anything and effortlessly create gold when together.
Jon Moxley vs. Adam Page -Texas Death Match - 07/12/2025
I've raved about this match multiple times at this point, and it should go without saving that I adore just about everything about this match. Bell to bell perfection, catharsis and violence in a perfect blend. Moxley and Hangman are born to fight each other.
Bandido vs. Konosuke Takeshita - 07/11/2025
A match that would have fit perfect in the prime years of Ring of Honor, Bandido and Takeshita built a vicious, violent tit-for-tat war into a crescendo of near falls and reversals. If there was any question as to the quality of these men, this match silenced all the doubters.
A close bracket for the pre-quarterfinals, but which match will advance?!
The Quarterfinalists
The D Block Quarterfinalist for July |
Well, there we have it! July is in the books. Next month will be the August bracket, the second half of the D block. Which ever match advances for August will be paired against the July winner to determine a semi-finalist. I've got a pretty good feeling which match moves through, but I don't want to count any chickens just yet.
Until next month, take it easy friends!
