October is in the rear view so that can mean only one thing! It's time for Matches of the Month! This was another exciting month of matches complete with Wrestling Roulette and a Halloween Havoc special to really spice things up this month!
Enjoy the read!
Tomohiro Ishii vs. Adam Page - AEW Dynamite - 08/28/2024
Featured in Weekly Watchlist 017
Jon Moxley vs. Darby Allin - AEW Dynamite - Grand Slam 2024 - Day 1 - 09/25/2024
Exactly what you'd expect this match to be. Moxley beating Darby to a pulp from pillar to post, Darby taking each hit like a point blank tank shell and begging for more. This "newer," more violent side of Moxley is endlessly entertaining, he's even more unpredictable than he was before. Its only a matter of time before Darby gets a world title match and, maybe even is the one to take it from Bryan sometime next year even.
CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre - Hell in a Cell - WWE Bad Blood - 10/05/2024
The prefect ending to an almost year long blood feud. Punk & McIntyre held nothing back and had one of the best cell matches of the last 10 years, without question. This cell match is the perfect third act in the epic drama that was Punk vs. McIntyre. An unforgettable match.
Finn Balor vs. Damian Priest - WWE Bad Blood - 10/05/2024
The Judgment Day finally collapses as Priest and Balor clash. Balor has been a forgotten workhorse after injuries, stop/start pushes and shacking up with the JD has had him in the ring less and less, while Priest has comfortably moved into the world champion position on the card and has only gotten better with each match he's had. Priest and Balor had a really fun and exciting match, working well against one another and showcasing the very best both men have to offer.
Adam Page vs. Jay White - AEW Wrestledream - 10/12/2024
Jay White has had a rough go of it in AEW, not really living up to the hype he had when signing with the company and then going away for a while with an injury, White needed to prove he was a top-level wrestler again. Page has comfortably (if not questionably) slotted into the top heel spot and made the perfect opponent for White. The firey, violent temper of Hangman was tempered by the savvy ring IQ of White, able to out wit and find the smallest holes in Hangman's offence to pick up a much needed win.
Will Ospreay vs. Ricochet vs. Konosuke Takeshita - AEW Wrestledream - 10/12/2024
It should come as no surprise that this match is as good as it was. Ospreay is innovating the modern style with each match he has, Ricochet has the freedom to do as he pleases and Takeshita continues to amaze every single time he steps in the ring. The perfect mixture of styles. Power, athletics and acrobatics. I may love a more grounded, technical, and often realistic style of match, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I adore matches like these.
Brody King vs. Darby Allin - AEW Wrestledream - 10/12/2024
Featured in Weekly Watchlist 018
Bryan Danielson vs. Jon Moxley - AEW Wrestledream - 10/12/2024
A strangely cathartic end to one of, if not the greatest wrestler of all time. Danielson putting his title and career on the line with each defence was the right move and Moxley being the one to do it, despite my initial reservations, was also the right move. "I will burn down the forest to plant a new one." Danielson fought for survival when he started to realize that his best just might not be good enough. Moxley fought with a purpose, a burning desire to force change in AEW. Dethroning the dragon was step one.
The WorkHorsemen vs. Double Kevin - DPW Beast Coast - 08/19/2023
Featured in Weekly Watchlist 018
The Steiner Brothers vs. The Nasty Boys - NWA Halloween Havoc 1990 - 10/27/1990
Featured in Weekly Watchlist 019
Mike Bailey vs. Jake Something vs. Tom Lawlor vs. Jay Malachi - DPW Carolina Classic 2023 - 09/17/2023
An insane, indie-style 4 way elimination match that sets the tone for the next year of DPW. A lot of things were set in motion with this card and this match, most notably the brilliant performance of a now DPW mainstay in Jake Something. Malachi winning was the story told the entire night and was the perfect move in every sense of the word.
Lucky Ali vs. Jay Malachi - Carolina Warfare - DPW Carolina Classic 2023 - 09/17/2023
After wrestling for over an hour combined, Malachi managed to beat the unbeatable Lucky Ali to win the DPW Worlds Championship in a brutal, awesome Carolina Warfare match, a DPW signature. It's unfortunate to know the future of both of these men and know their time in DPW is coming to an end, but Malachi having his moment at the top after being a homegrown DPW star since day one was a perfect way to end one of DPW's best shows to date.
Mitsuharu Misawa vs. Toshiaki Kawada - AJPW Super Power Series 1997 - Day 16 - 06/06/1997
Featured in Weekly Watchlist 020
Kenta Kobashi vs. Yoshinari Ogawa - Navigation Against The Current - Day 11 - 11/01/2023
Featured in Weekly Watchlist 020
Ric Flair vs. Terry Funk - NWA The Great American Bash 1989 - Glory Days - 07/23/1989
Featured in Weekly Watchlist 020
Eddie Guerrero vs. Rey Misterio Jr. - WCW Halloween Havoc 1997 - 10/26/1997
Featured in Weekly Watchlist 021
Goldberg vs. Diamond Dallas Page - WCW/nWo Halloween Havoc 1998 - 10/25/1998
Featured in Weekly Watchlist 021
